(Alleged) prostitutes – free delivery!

A man and woman were arrested last week in Hoboken in connection with an alleged prostitution “call girl” service, according to Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio.
The Prosecutor’s Office worked in conjunction with the Hoboken Police Department on the “undercover investigation,” DeFazio said, which included surveillance techniques.
DeFazio said he couldn’t release all of the details, but said the arrest was made in Hoboken when a transaction was allegedly going to happen. He said the alleged prostitution service was a driver-and-girl operation, rather than a street-walking type.
According to Hoboken arrest records, Shannon Gilbert, 22, Jersey City, and Elpidio Evangelista, 42, Jersey City, were arrested at 300 Sinatra Drive on Tuesday, June 23 and charged with promoting prostitution, conspiracy, and manufacturing, distributing, or dispensing a controlled dangerous substance.
Gilbert’s employer was listed in the arrest log as Lace Party Girls and her alias as “Sabrina.” Both were released on a summons.

Seniors mugged on Hudson Street in daylight

Two elderly women were the targets of a purse-snatching last weekend, but neither lost her purse, police said.
On Saturday, June 13, at 8:30 a.m., the women were standing at the corner of Fourth and Hudson streets talking to each other when a man approached them and tried to grab their handbags from their shoulders, according to Det. Sgt. Sam Williams.
Both women put up a struggle, police said, and the would-be snatcher let go of one of the purses and dragged the other woman five feet along the ground, trying to take her bag.
The man finally gave up and fled north on Hudson Street, according to the two women and two witnesses.
A jogger attempted to chase down the man, but lost him going west on Fifth Street.
Police said the male was described as a light-skinned, athletically built man about 5 feet 8 inches in height with short dark hair that was curly in the back. He was wearing dark shorts and a white basketball jersey.

Lock up your car

Police investigated two more incidents of thievery from cars recently and reminded residents that they are asking for criminal attention if they leave GPS units or other items visible in the car, especially overnight.
On Thursday, June 25, police were notified of a car break-in overnight at 14th and Clinton streets.
A woman reported that her driver’s side window was smashed and her GPS unit was taken, police said.
No suspects were found.
On Wednesday, June 24 at 2 p.m., a restaurant worker at 12th Street and Willow Avenue was notified by a friend that someone was searching through his car outside, Williams said.
When the employee came out to check, no one was at the car, but he found his wallet missing and saw two men riding away on bikes nearby.
The employee couldn’t leave, but called police to notify them, and sent his brother to look for the men.
The victim’s brother saw the two men at the Ninth St. Light Rail station elevator and notified police, Williams said.
Jersey City police arrived at Paterson Plank Road and Congress Street and found no items on the two men, police said.
No other suspects were found.
