Jack Raslowsky, superintendent of the Hoboken school district, will take a high school presidency job in New York City, resigning his position after serving for three years, according to multiple sources.
Sources within the district and school board have confirmed that Raslowsky will be leaving in August, just as the newly elected board starts to dismantle the administration he put in place three years ago.
The board decided to not renew contracts of high-level administrators who are not part of collective bargaining agreements. Contracts for the district Chief Information Officer David Bailey and Maintenance and HVAC repairman Onofrio Mezzina were not renewed by the board last night, and other contracts, including Assistant Superintendent Dr. Anthony Petrosino, will be voted on at a June 30 special meeting.
Raslowsky will be the president of Xavier High School in the Flatiron District of Manhattan, a Jesuit school just blocks away from Union Square Park.
As the former principal of St. Peter’s Preparatory School in Jersey City, the Harvard-educated Raslowsky was also the provincial assistant for Education and Lay Formation of the New York Province Society of Jesus, also Jesuits.
Neither Raslowsky nor Xaivier officials returned calls today, and Raslowsky was reportedly telling school prinicpals today about the situation. One administrative employee said the resignation was a surprise to many in the district.
Board member Theresa Minutillo said the board was never told, and that the summer months may not be enough time to have a new, permanent superintendent in place by the coming school year. The board might need to appoint an interim superintendent while a longterm search continues over the next year, she said.
