Economic stimulus package

Dear Editor:
I write to offer my position on a topic which has generated much news. Specifically, media outlets have made “economic stimulus package” common terminology in workplaces and around dinner tables. Just as the entire nation has been affected by recent economic woes, we look to the economic stimulus package for relief during these tumultuous times.
In reflecting on President Obama’s economic stimulus package, I wholeheartedly believe that Americans are in dire need of assistance, and in this period of fiscal uncertainty, government should play a role in ensuring that citizens are able to make ends meet.
However, it is also my contention that stimulus funds should be directed at residents who need immediate relief, eliminating barriers or levels of bureaucracy. Furthermore, funding should be aimed at inner-city neighborhoods and minority communities. It is imperative that the interests of urban areas are positively impacted by the new stimulus funds, as it is these regions that are often neglected.
While we look to the future of the markets with hope and trust in a new administration in Washington D.C., we must rebuke bureaucratic measures which steer money away from needy residents and into the accounts of mega corporations.
Now is the time to take a stand for those who work so hard to maintain a decent standard of living for loved ones.
In closing, please understand that I will fight to ensure that every stimulus dollar is delivered to hands that are in need.

Sincerely,
Brian P. Stack
State Senator
