Education is the key to success

To the Editor:
In order not to mislead the reader regarding the direction of this letter, I am employed as a counselor at Bayonne High School (since 1973). When the Board of Education meeting ended at 11:42 p.m. on April 30, my emotions ran the gamut from shock, amazement, and hurt (but not angry).
It seems like a tragic coincidence that “Teacher Appreciation Week” extended from May 4 through May 8. Needless to say, the Board of Education would use the media to express their “thanks for a job well done.” I suggest that more money can be saved by not using the ink and paper!
To the Bayonne taxpayers who think that the money was well saved, I suggest that you go to a near-by community and walk the streets after dark, passing aimless teenagers, or even visit a shelter for the homeless. After these experiences, you can make a comparison in the quality of life. The conclusion should be education is the key to success.
Yes, the Board of Education has not only broken a contract, but also many a family’s heart. Still, I will never let anger break my bond in helping children, who may come from a parent on the Board of Education.
