In Hoboken’s race for the mayor’s seat and three council-at-large seats, unofficial midday tallies, according to campaign officials, had roughly 5,400 voters out at the polls. Surprisingly, today’s numbers were not much higher than the 5,300 in the 2005 race, despite the large increase in turnout that many predicted.
A member of the Beth Mason camp said that about 80 absentee ballots – the majority allegedly for Cammarano – were called into question at the Jersey City Court House today due to a chain of custody issues. Absentee ballots must be handled in a certain way, and apparently these ballots may not have followed procedure correctly.
Other than usual election sign issues, deputies for the county’s Superintendent of Elections said no major problems have come up so far.
