She’s got a dog in the race

Independent mayoral candidate Ryn Melberg has announced that her dog, Patrick, is running for “doggie mayor” of Hoboken.
At first, we were a bit concerned about this. Unless Ryn can keep him on a short leash, Patrick is likely to dig up a lot of dirt on the opponents.
But we decided to throw him a bone.
Here is his release:
“Patrick Melberg, a cairn terrier, today formally announced his candidacy for Doggie Mayor of Hoboken. Patrick is running on the platform of more open space for dogs and stricter enforcement of pooper scooper laws.

” ‘In Hoboken, there are more dogs than children,’ said Patrick. ‘As Doggie Mayor, I would make sure that the barks of all dogs in Hoboken are heard.’ ”
“Patrick wants more open space for dogs to enjoy recreational activities with their owners. In addition, he will work to replace the pebbles in city dogs runs with grass…Patrick also feels pooper scooper laws should be enforced.”
“Patrick added ‘I would clean if I could, but I don’t have thumbs.’ ”
“A native of Long Island, Patrick moved to Hoboken when he was seven. He believes he will be elected Doggie Mayor despite the fact that he isn’t a B&R (born and raised). ‘The vast majority of dogs in Hoboken are transplants,’ he said. ‘Very few of us were born here. I don’t think my birthplace will be an issue.’ ”

“About Patrick
“A 4-year resident of Hoboken, Patrick is a Cairn Terrier. Ryn Melberg, Hoboken mayoral candidate and Patrick’s owner, reports that Patrick likes squeaky toys and hanging out at Hoboken’s dog-friendly sidewalk cafes. He is also partial to naps. Patrick insists that his naps will not interfere with his ability to execute his duties as Doggie Mayor.”
We’re just glad someone around here has a sense of humor.
