Dear Editor:
As a lifetime resident and property owner here in Union City, I as thousands of residents appreciate sound, responsible local government.
Recently throughout the state of New Jersey Board of Education elections were held. These elections took place in towns where board members are elected to office. I’m in agreement with having an appointed Board, as we have in Union City. The reason I oppose an elected Board of Education is because every year there is an election and thousands of taxpayers’ dollars are wasted and this cost make property taxes to go sky high. Also, in an elected Board of Education, the board members spent too much time campaigning trying to get elected.
Here in Union City the reason property taxes are stable is because every four (4) years the city only spends money for the local municipal election. Here in Union City we have a mayor in Mr. Brian P. Stack that allows superintendent Mr. Stanley M. Sanger to make strict, discipline decisions which at the end of the day is why our district is the model and most successful about district in the entire State of New Jersey.
Respectfully,
Oscar Cordero
