Contractors for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority advised Bayonne residents that the Turnpike’s Newark Bay Extension Bridge (also known as Casciano Bridge) will have only one eastbound lane open during the first weekend in May, if weather permits construction to take place. As a result of construction activity, one eastbound right lane on the bridge will be closed from Friday night, May 1, through Sunday night, May 3. The bridge will reopen the additional lane to traffic by no later than 5:00 a.m., Monday, May 4. Westbound traffic will not be affected.
Variable message signs in Bayonne and at other locations will advise motorists of the closing.
Other construction activity will be taking place on the bridge in the near future. Details will be announced.
