Hoboken, please support Empty Bowls

Dear Editor,

Did you know that people are living in shacks on a hill in our community? I’m concerned that people get fired from their jobs just because they had to stay home to take care of sick children. One out of every four elderly people in the U.S. can’t afford a healthy diet. Thirty-thousand children die of hunger every day.
Hoboken is doing its best to help hungry people. At our school, we started a Sandwich Squad to make a lot of sandwiches every week during our break to give to the soup kitchen. A lot more people are coming to the soup kitchens because of the bad economy. We are also having an event called Empty Bowls. At Empty Bowls, we get to have a big breakfast with a whole lot of cereal. When we are done eating, we get a bowl to remind us about people around the world who have empty bowls.
Hoboken can help this situation by coming to our Empty Bowls and by donating more food and clothes to homeless shelters, soup kitchens, and food pantries. Please come to our Empty Bowls. We will appreciate it if you donate food or different things to our less fortunate friends. Please remember, you can make a difference in people’s lives.

Sincerely,
Angela Smith
