Secaucus gets new kayak dock

Captain Bill Sheehan, the staff of Hackensack Riverkeeper environmental organization, and Hudson County officials are conducting a ceremony on Thursday for the Grand Opening of the Hackensack River’s newest canoe/kayak launch. The new dock – located at Laurel Hill County Park in Secaucus – is the latest of what will ultimately be a total of fifteen launch points along the river as part of the National Park Service’s HACKENSACK RIVER PADDLE TRAIL.
According to the groups, “Laurel Hill Park has welcomed paddlers since June 1999 when Hackensack Riverkeeper opened its Paddling Center there in partnership with the Hudson County Division of Parks. Each year, over a thousand people rent canoes & kayaks or take guided tours from the facility; or launch their own boats at the park. As paddling grows in popularity and the Hackensack River continues to improve, it is expected that the new dock will receive plenty of use both now and in the future.”
Laurel Hill County Park is located on the Hackensack River at the End of New County Road in Secaucus. The park is easily accessible from either the NJ Turnpike via Exit 15-X or local streets. Contact Hackensack Riverkeeper for complete directions and additional details.
