Richard Scott Turnbull, 61, who owned the popular restaurant Uptown Pizza on 14th Street in Hoboken, passed away on Monday at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospital, New York. A funeral mass will be offered April 13 at Sts. Peter & Paul R.C. Church, Hoboken. He was born in Brooklyn and later moved to Hoboken. He was a U.S. Air Force Reserve veteran serving from 1966-1970.
The pizzeria was given a note of fame because Hoboken resident Artie Lange, a comedian on the Howard Stern show, had mentioned it on the show.
Surviving are Turnbull’s father John Turnbull; his wife Carol (nee: Olsen): his children Richard and his wife Brenda, Tara Krause and her husband Joe, Carissa Biggie and her husband John, and Dana Turnbull; his siblings John, Steve, and Lorraine Wechsler; and his grandchildren James, Lauren, Jack, Allison, Jacey, Matthew, and William. He was predeceased by his mother Theresa Turnbull (nee: Fiorello). Services arranged by the Failla Memorial Home, Hoboken.
