Anniversary Walk through Lincoln Tunnel

Registration for the Anniversary Walk through the Lincoln Tunnel in support of the NJ Special Olympics begins at 8 a.m. at the NJ Transit Bus parking lot, 500 Boulevard East. Early registration is available on-line at sonj.org. Registration is $20. All those who register under the team name of “Weehawken Township” will receive a free visor the day of the walk. Pershing Steps to Re-Open April 4th
After months of repairs, the Pershing Steps walkway will reopen this Saturday, April 4. The steps will be open between the regular hours of 5:30 a.m. and midnight. Exercise caution as some minor work may still be ongoing.

Weehawken receives aid

The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs gave Weehawken a fiscal year 2009 Extraordinary Aid award for its annual budget. The aid is given to municipalities that, because of extreme circumstances, would not be able to provide essential services to the community without property tax hikes. Weehawken received $2 million, which is an increase of $1 million from last year’s aid. For more information, please visit www.nj.gov/dca/lgs.

Planning Board meeting

Seniors’ Easter Party

The Township of Weehawken invites all seniors to the annual Senior Easter Party held on Sunday, April 5 at 1 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 51th Street and Boulevard East. Transportation will be provided; and prizes awarded for the best Easter bonnet. For more information, please call (201) 319-6060.

County Identification cards

The County Identification program will be held on Wednesday, April 22 from 10 a.m. until noon, allowing Weehawken residents to receive a County issued I.D. card for a $20 fee. Tax break on new car purchase

The Internal Revenue Service announced last week that taxpayers who purchase a new passenger vehicle this year may be entitled to a deduction on the purchase on their 2009 tax returns. The deduction is limited to state and local taxes and excise taxes paid on up to $49,500 of the purchase. Taxpayers are eligible for the deduction based on gross income. Lincoln Tunnel 5K for Special Olympics

The 23rd Lincoln Tunnel Challenge 5K Fun Run/Walk for Special Olympics New Jersey is scheduled for April 26. The underwater race will begin at the south tube of the Lincoln Tunnel in Weehawken and continue to New York City and back.
