Man killed in ‘personally motivated’ shooting

A Jersey City man was killed late Wednesday night in an incident that Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio described as “personally motivated.”
DeFazio said Ormont Logan, 26, of Bayview Avenue, was shot multiple times on Clendenny Avenue at West Side Avenue shortly before midnight Wednesday after arguing with another man over a woman.
DeFazio said he was pronounced dead at the Jersey City Medical Center at 12:45 a.m. Thursday morning.
DeFazio said the shooter, Darryl “D” Denmark, 21, of Orient Avenue fled the murder scene with a semiautomatic pistol. DeFazio said Denmark is at large, and is considered armed and dangerous.
Anyone with information on the shooting or the whereabouts of Denmark is asked to contact the Prosecutor’s Office at (201) 915-1345.

JC man killed while walking home

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office is still investigating the death of a Jersey City man on March 28 after he was shot dead execution-style while walking along Summit Avenue.
Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said Thursday that Antwan Baisden was shot twice around 3 a.m. as he was on his way to his home on Astor Place.
DeFazio said an autopsy conducted Saturday by the state Regional Medical Examiner’s Office in Newark found that Baisden died from a bullet that penetrated the back of the head and exited from the front.
DeFazio said the shooting was premeditated and may have been done in connection with a previous shooting incident involving the victim, but he did not go into specifics. DeFazio said the Jersey City Police Department and the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Division are continuing to investigate. No arrests have been made.
Anyone with information should contact the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Division at (201) 915-1345.

Jersey City to Earn Award for Bayfront Redevelopment Plan

Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy announced recently that the Jersey City Bayfront Redevelopment Plan will be honored with the 2009 “Achievement in Planning Award” at the New Jersey Planning Officials Awards Banquet to be held from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, April 24, at the Woodbridge Hilton Hotel, Woodbridge.
“A handful of forward-thinking projects are changing the future of Jersey City,” added Mayor Healy. “And I am extremely pleased and proud that Jersey City’s Bayfront Redevelopment Plan is amongst those being honored by New Jersey Planning Officials. It is only by embracing smart-growth principles and transit-oriented development that we will continue to improve our communities and preserve our natural areas.”
Bayfront, which is part of a larger vision called the Jersey City Bayside Development Plan, will transform old industrial, commercial, and municipal sites on the city’s west side into a new pedestrian friendly urban neighborhood intended to be a model of environmentally-conscious design.
The Bayfront Redevelopment Plan calls for up to 8,000 new residential units, one million square feet of commercial and retail space and more than 20 acres of new parks and open space. The plan also encourages all buildings within the Bayfront Area to conform to the standards of the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Building Rating Program.
