The pulse of West New York

Dear Editor:
It is a well known fact that our nation, state & county are in the midst of a serious recession that will be in effect for the foreseeable future. Every single day that I turn on a radio or television I learn about more and more administrations around our area having to make serious & not so popular decisions on how they will attempt to begin to resurrect their respective municipalities & counties from the current fiscal mess that they have found themselves in. We must remind ourselves that we in West New York are not alone when it comes to this very difficult situation.
Although we are in a tough situation, we have so much positive activity going on in town that we can be proud of & look forward to. For the first time ever, we have a brand new state of the art web site that serves as the official web address for our town. It is full of information that is vital to us all (WestNewYorkNJ.org). A new three-story parking deck on 62nd St. that will provide over 300 parking spaces is near completion. There are also a few affordable housing developments being completed & should be ready to go very soon. We also have brand new schools being constructed.
I know West New York very well. People who do not live in this town are free to their opinion but not much else. The only people that matter are the ones who live here & the ones who vote here. I have nothing but complete confidence in our Mayor Silverio A. Vega & the entire Board of Elected Commissioners. Mayor Vega displayed his strong leadership skills while serving as Hudson County Freeholder Chairman for eight consecutive years (the longest in Hudson history). He is doing so once again by making difficult yet necessary decisions in order to prepare West New York for a stable future. That is what leadership is all about. I live here. I vote here. I love my town & I trust my Mayor!
