Happy there’s a new sheriff in town

Dear Editor:
As a member of the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office I offer the following comments in regards to the new Hudson County Sheriff’s Office and the current greatly improved state of affairs in the department.
Thanks to Sheriff Perez, Chief John Bartucci and the staff we were able to secure a pay increase which never would have happened under the former Sheriff, we have secured new vehicles for our patrol unit, detective unit, courts and receiving unit. Under Sheriff Perez’s leadership we are out of the dark ages and finally in the 21st century by streamlining the way we do business and saving the taxpayers of Hudson County hundreds of thousands of dollars. Sheriff Perez and Chief Bartucci have in the last year sent more officers and supervisors of this department for training than the former Sheriff ever did in his 12 year career (every officer and supervisor is encouraged to apply for training that is related and necessary in order to better perform their duties and responsibilities, not just a select few as was the known practice under the former Sheriff and his administration), which has resulted in morale increasing a hundred fold.
Sheriff Perez has brought to this office of the Sheriff pride; pride in wearing the uniform in public as members of the law enforcement community. Under the former Sheriff we were to call upon other law enforcement agencies to respond to motor vehicle accidents, complaints, etc. – under Sheriff Perez it is expected that every member of the department respond as law enforcement officers and not just stand by and wait for some other agency to do it for us as the former Sheriff had us doing for 12 long demoralizing years. Professionalism, standards of conduct and accountability are the words the former Sheriff was not familiar with; these words are now the norm in the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office thanks to Sheriff Perez.
As for the observation that Sheriff Perez is constantly in the media, it is just to let everyone know that there is a new Sheriff in town and he means business (law enforcement business).
I think I speak for many in the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office when I say, “I love coming to work and working with our Sheriff Juan M. Perez”.

Sincerely,
Sgt. David Alamo
