Smith gets endorsement from transit workers union

Jersey City mayoral candidate L. Harvey Smith received an endorsement on Monday from the Amalgamated Transit Union New Jersey State Joint Council.
Officials from the 7,500-member union, which represents bus drivers, light rail workers and other transit workers in Hudson County and other parts of New Jersey, stood with Smith and members of his election team in front of City Hall.
“As Jersey City continues to grow, we know that you will see to it that the city is made more livable and we look forward to working with you to develop better transit options for the people of Jersey City,” said John A. Costa, Chairman and State Business Agent for the Amalgamated Transit Union.
Smith thanked the union and talked about the importance of their support.
“This is important because they are concerned about the working relationship with people who understand their needs,” Smith said. “And they want elected officials who will work with them.”
Smith also said he has received endorsements from a group of Baptist ministers in Hudson County and is expecting others in coming weeks. – Ricardo Kaulessar
