How can Hoboken elect a Mayor who can’t be bothered or just doesn’t care enough to follow our city’s laws? As the article on your website pointed out, on Friday, March 13, the Mason Campaign plastered campaign posters on Hoboken’s black light poles in direct violation of ordinance to post advertisements on the city’s utility poles. Additionally, Director of Environmental Services James Ronga indicated the Hoboken Law Department usually sends the candidates letters specifically reminding her that posting the signs on utility poles violates town ordinances and that she should not put them there or she could be summonsed.
To add insult to injury, today while walking on Washington Street and Observer Highway I saw no fewer than a dozen of Ms. Mason’s campaign posters had already fallen littering the sidewalk. The city’s ordinance was passed directly to prevent this from happening.
How can Ms. Mason sit on the Board of Directors of the Quality of Life Coalition, while her campaign adversely affects the quality of life of Hoboken residents? Her campaign posters have fallen down and now are in the gutter tacked with mud and weighted down with dirty water.
Maybe we, as Hoboken residents, should just grin and bear her law breaking in fear that if the City of Hoboken takes any legal action or levy any fines against the Mason Campaign, Ms. Mason will file yet another costly law suit against the city. If you recall, Ms. Mason has filed law suits, described as “inappropriate” and “divisive” by Councilman Ruben Ramos, against the Hoboken Municipal Hospital Authority and another suit demanding the cell phone records of Hoboken employees. Additionally, in each of Ms. Mason’s suits she has forced the City of Hoboken to pay for her own legal expenses. In times of tight budgets, Hoboken can’t afford to foot another bill for Ms. Mason’s lawyers.
How can Ms. Mason expect to be taken seriously as a Mayoral Candidate if she continues to turn a blind eye towards the very laws she claims to uphold? If this is her “One Goal”, it definitely isn’t mine.
