Despite the name, “Temporary Tuesdays” at the Whiskey Bar in Hoboken is a permanent endeavor. The brand new night at the bar showcases one of New Jersey’s hottest cover bands, Temporary Grace, with three live sets a night. The band has been on the Jersey circuit for over five years, playing shows from Asbury Park to Manhattan. Now, the band makes a new home in Hoboken.
“We wanted to try a new night,” said general manager of the Whiskey P.J. McLaughlin. “The night starts early and it doesn’t end too late, and you get to see a really great band.”
What to expect
Starting off the night, the band plays an all acoustic set at 8:30 p.m. that could include some of the band’s singer/songwriter covers like “No Rain” by Blind Melon or “Evenflow” by Pearl Jam.
The full band takes the stage at 9:30 p.m., and lets the audience in on the fun with an open-mic/karaoke session the bar is calling “Hoboken Idol.” The set gives bar patrons the opportunity to get on stage and show off their pipes.
“You could even get up and sing yourself,” McLaughlin said.
After the karaoke set, the entire band returns to the stage at 11 p.m. to finish out the night with a full rock show.
What’s on tap
The no-cover night even offers a number of great drink specials in addition to the large selection of drinks at the bar. Two dollar select draft pints like Coors Light are sure to please, while $4 three-olive mixed drinks and $5 bombs will turn bar-goers into ready and willing karaoke stars.
“With the economy being what it is,” McLaughlin said, “we wanted to offer people a fun night where you would only end up spending $20 and still tip like a champion.”
The Whiskey Bar is located at 125 Washington St. in Hoboken and is open five days a week, Tuesday through Sunday. For more information, please visit www.whiskey-bar.com.
