Chez Marie will be greatly missed

To the Editor:
I was recently the recipient of some sad news regarding one of Bayonne’s foremost business establishments. Due to adverse impact resulting from our ailing economy, the Chez Marie Coffee Shop at 10 East 22nd Street will soon be closing its doors forever. Yes, as of April 1, 2009, Bayonne will have lost one of its finest businesses. Run by Marie and Jim Folger, this shop provides lots of good, nutritious foods and flavorful beverages to satisfy everyone’s tastes. Some of their menu items are also low in sodium and are “just what the doctor ordered” for people like me, who are striving to keep hypertension under control.
My sincerest thanks go to Marie and Jim Folger and to Debra Boyle for their kindness as they served me and all their other customers at Chez Marie for the past 15 years. They treated their customers with respect and courtesy, and that will never be forgotten.
The loss of this fine business establishment only serves to strengthen my belief that Bayonne is going downhill. Bayonne’s businesses must receive our continuing patronage in order to survive in these tough times. Additionally, they must be located on or near Broadway, not in an off-site mall, which is totally inaccessible to those of us who do not own a car.
Wake up, Bayonne! It’s time to start supporting local business establishments as much as possible and keep them in existence. The Chez Marie Coffee Shop will be greatly missed.
