Glossy mailers for Hoboken Councilwoman Beth Mason arrived in Hoboken residents’ mailboxes Saturday, attacking Mayor David Roberts for the $4.2 million taxpayers may have to cough up because of the city’s botched early retirement plan. On the other side of the mailer, it says “Join me in the fight to save our city by putting an end to incompetence and waste. Because Hoboken can’t afford to wait any longer for good government reform.”
Then it asks readers to visit www.MasonCityCouncil.org to get involved.
But why no mention of a mayoral campaign? Is there still any hestiation or doubt?
Sources have said she’ll announce this week, but the flyer makes no mention of it.
However, the talented blogger behind Hobokenjournal pointed out in his entry on Friday that Mason submitted her ELEC filing to run for mayor in late January. He also has found another council member who’s thrown his hat into the ring.
Meanwhile, Roberts’ sources told newspapers Friday that he definitely won’t be running for re-election. So far, council people Peter Cammarano and Dawn Zimmer have announced their intention to run for mayor.
