Hudson-Bergen Light Rail trains continued to bypass the Pavonia/Newport station as of 12:40 p.m. on Friday The station has been closed since Thursday morning due to damage to an adjacent building from high winds that have struck the area in the past two days.
According to a NJ Transit spokesperson, the Jersey City Office of Emergency Management requested the station stay closed until further notice. The spokesperson said it was because shattered glass from windows of a nearby building was strewn around the station. Winds clocking upwards of 50 mph on Thursday and 20 mph today have kept the station closed.
