Dear Editor:
On Tuesday January 13th, there was a Hoboken Board of Education meeting. There were approximately 300 people in attendance due to the teachers’ contract and the HoLa program (Hola informed citizens that they would try to force a vote).
Mr. Raslowsky opened the meeting with very inflammatory and insulting comments directed toward parents who wrote letters asking for more support for high school programs and for those who were in attendance opposing Hola. There was no precipitating event, statement or remark to provoke such unacceptable slurs and name calling. He referred to those who wrote letters as having “failure of character.”
At one point much later in the meeting, Mr. Raslowsky verbally assaulted a parent’s character. He suggested that the parent was uniformed, unlikeable and a person who no one could work with. These contemptuous remarks are absolutely unacceptable. They reveal an inherent inability to identify needs, work with the community and therefore, show a complete disconnect with academic issues facing our schools.
