Many not ready for DTV conversion

Many people in our area are not ready for the conversion to digital television, especially seniors on fixed incomes who can’t afford cable. In this story, a man named Kenneth from West New York is among them, noting that he’s on a fixed income and can’t afford cable.
The converter boxes they can buy don’t always work unless the antenna system in the building is set up well (and we know from personal experiences, many of them are not.)

In addition, the government has run out of DTV vouchers to take $40 off the $50 to $60 price.

President-Elect Barack Obama has asked the FCC to put off the Feb. 17 conversion date. For more, see the link above.
We will be writing more about this controversy in next weekend’s editions.
