D’ARPINO, SAMUEL F. Visitations for Samuel F. D’Arpino, 86, were held Dec. 6 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Jersey City. A graveside service with Military Honors was held Mon. Dec. 8, 2008 at Hillside Cemetery, Lyndhurst, NJ. One of 12 children born to Josephine Rapa and James D’Arpino, he grew up at St. Joseph’s Orphanage in Peekskill, NY. D’Arpino was drafted during WWII at the age of 22, serving in the 100th Infantry Division where he became a Battlefield Commissioned Officer and rose to the rank of Captain. He was also recalled during the Korean War. He owned Dar Mar News Co. newsstand at 550 Broad Street, Newark, NJ for over 30 years. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Leslie; his daughter, Christine and her sons Ned, David and Matthew Cox; his daughter Marcy and son-in-law Harry Gray and their daughters Abigail Gray and Elisha Van Orden; his son, Father Tom Roberts; 2 great-grandchildren, Kaya and Evan; and his sisters, Mary, Jenny and Frances and brother, Nick.
