A gift from the stars? Spielberg and Cruise live up to their promises

The Klumpp Stadium Little League Field on First Street and Kennedy Boulevard will get more than just a face lift, thanks to an agreement with Paramount Studios and gifts from director Steven Spielberg and the movie’s star, Tom Cruise.

“We were just notified from Odin Pro Productions that Tom Cruise will pay for the construction of new covered dug outs,” said City Law Department Director Jay Coffey.

Klumpp Stadium was used as a location for a fictional gas station in the film and Paramount agreed to pay the city $125,000 for the restoration of the field toward the restoration and upgrade of the field in time for the May 1 Little League opening day festivities. The company has also agreed to pay the city $10,000 to replace a light pole they removed prior to filming.

“Paramount has also set aside $25,000 to cover any environmental issues that might come up,” Coffey said, noting that the state Department of Environmental Protection and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey are currently evaluating that situation.

Also as a gift Spielberg and Cruise will donate in excess of $7,100 for a new score board for the field that will commemorate the filming at the location.
