Weehawken nurtures students, the arts

Dear Editor:

I had the pleasure of attending the Weehawken High School graduation last Tuesday. It was heartwarming to witness the joy of the students as they took deserved pride in their accomplishments and achievements. My congratulations go out to all of them as well as to their families, teachers and the Weehawken School District administration.

As the graduation ceremony continued, I watched as accolades, scholarships and honors were given by members of our community. The students are indeed fortunate to benefit from the superb collaborative efforts and nurturing community involvement and volunteerism of so many in our town.

Another collaborative effort is about to begin in our town, namely the Summer Concerts on the Hudson music series that will start this coming Wednesday at Lincoln Harbor Park on our waterfront. These free concerts, which feature several Grammy Award winners, could not take place without the support and help from dozens of individuals and groups. I would like to thank, in advance, the Board of Trustees of the Hudson Riverfront Performing Arts Center, Mayor Turner and the Township Council, the Weehawken Departments of Parks and Recreation, Public Safety, and Public Works, and the many volunteers and private donors. I would also like to thank our sponsors, which include the Township of Weehawken, the County of Hudson and the State of New Jersey, along with our corporate sponsors, Hartz Mountain Industries, K. Hovnanian, the Hudson Reporter, Lennar Corporation, Roseland Property Company, PSE&G, Sheraton Suites on the Hudson and UBS.

Sincerely,
Bruce Sherman
