Dear Editor:
The recent political mailing from the Hudson County Democratic Organization (HCDO) viciously attacking our mayor, Brian P. Stack, outrages me. Studies and polls consistently show the electorate, both nationally and locally, are turned off by negative attacks.
These attacks also contribute to lower voter turnout due to a sense of disgust. As a registered Democrat in Hudson County and longtime resident of Union City, I appeal to you to vote for the candidate of your choice based on facts and record of accomplishments rather than character assassination, allegations, gossip, quotes taken out of context, unfair and biased claims.
A reform message that we the voters in Union City can send to the HCDO or any slate of candidates, is that dirty mailings will not be tolerated. And the voter is not a gullible pawn to manipulate with emotional language. Voter turnout is typically low during a primary but we can reverse the trend. Your vote can be a wise instrument of true change by rejecting any smear campaign.
Your neighbor,
Tony Squire
