Spring Bridal Say I do to gorgeous gowns, hair, flowers

With a little planning and preparation for the things that can go wrong – you can have your dream wedding day. On the following pages is information about local stores that have all the details of the day covered. So whether you are looking for services for the bride, the groom, or almost anything in between – read on!

Dresses for the bride and her maids

Gowns can run the gamut of styles. Today’s bride can find many different cuts, lengths, and fabrics to suit almost any fancy.

Shown on the following pages are some popular brands of gowns for the bride like: Eve Milady (sequined bodice strapless gown), Pronovias (tucked strapless gown with crinoline overlay), and the Marie Antoinette styled (silk gown with rosebud detail).

For the bridesmaids, there are many different styles to choose from. Jim Hjelm Occasions and Watters & Watters (www.watter.com) offer dresses in many different colors that will fit any design palette.

One look that is popular this year is a dress with a bow in a contrasting color. (This look is also popular for the bride.)

Shown on the following pages are some elegant dresses for formal or semi-formal weddings.

The strapless teal knee length dress is an all occasion look that can easily be worn again.

The elegant black and white floor length gown by Watters & Watters has a cotton lace overlay, a satin back and taffeta skirt. This dress can be ordered in a variety of colors.

Not a hair out of place

Just as having the perfect dress can be the focal point for the festive day, perfectly styled hair and makeup can add the finishing touch.

The bride should have at least one trial at the salon of her choosing to try out different looks.

Although simple classic styles of an up-do or a twist can transform a bride into a princess for the day, more complex styles of pin curls or braids can showcase a brides’ individuality.

While many looks can work – just say no to highlights or a new hair cut the week before! The last thing a blushing bride needs is a hair style that needs fixing. Any bride that feels a last minute urge to try something new should opt for a subtle conditioning glaze.

Many salons, like Hair Cult in Hoboken, can customize a package for the wedding party.

Pamper yourself

With all the running around and last-minute errands, you will need some time to decompress. A week before the big day, why not indulge in a full body massage, manicure, and pedicure?

The bride might also want to consider extra services a few weeks before like brow grooming, waxing, or a facial. While a facial can restore skin to its youthful glow, it is best to do it a week before, as it can lead to breakouts.

Put your best face forward

Just as the proper skin care and nutrition can lead to healthier, younger looking skin, makeup can enhance the appearance.

Bill Gross, the makeup artist from Hair Cult who styled our model Holly Williams, offered advice for the blushing bride-to-be.

“One of the major concerns for brides is that they don’t want to look overly made up,” said Gross. “They want to look fresh.”

Gross said that a tinted moisturizer works well as a base because it softens and colors the skin without looking like a mask.

Next, a bride should decide whether she wants dramatic eyes or lips.

According to Gross, the current trend is for a dramatic eye. For eye-popping results, Gross recommends neutrals with extra lashes added for drama. “It also really helps to have a trial done and to take photographs,” said Gross. “That will give you a good idea of what you will look like on the day.”

Although makeup fits the bride more than the groom, guys shouldn’t skimp on skincare. Gross recommends that the groom gets a facial treatment the week before as well.

And…

Take the stress out of planning your day by starting with a bridal planner. Many guides have detailed lists of all the necessary steps and items you’ll need, so the big day doesn’t turn into one big headache.

And don’t forget to delegate! Bridesmaids, family members and friends can often be invaluable in offering advice, help, or even just a welcome respite from all the work.
