The Sky’s the limit! Former Devils star to open health club in Hoboken

For Devils fans, defenseman Ken Daneyko needs no introduction. Daneyko played for 20 years with the New Jersey team and took home Stanley Cups in 1995, 2000, and 2003 before retiring in 2003. During his career he was awarded the Bill Masterton Trophy in 2000 for his skill, loyalty, and sportsmanship to hockey.

The team is honoring him by retiring his no. 3 jersey on March 24 at the Meadowlands.

But that doesn’t mean Daneyko is retiring from view.

In April, Daneyko is opening the Sky Club Fitness & Spa, a new health club in Hoboken with fabulous views.

A new kind of club

According to Daneyko, who is one of the owners in the enterprise, two years ago he had the idea to open a club. Naturally proud of New Jersey, it was only logical to look for a place in the Garden State.

“I learned from sports that you have to have a good team,” said Daneyko. “We have that.”

The dream is finally coming to fruition as the finishing touches are being put on the grand looking new club and fitness center.

One of the first things clients will notice is all the space in the innovatively designed club. With high ceilings, a cascading wall of water, rooftop deck and pool, and spectacular views of Manhattan, it’s a place that will ignite your senses as you work out your body.

Attention has been given to the layout of the place, which has been designed to allow privacy for the steam room and certain classes. No more cramped weight or machine rooms. There is plenty of space between the machines to enjoy the time spent as you peruse the view.

“We are trying to make it feel different,” said Daneyko. “Comfortable but with a nightclub feel.”

“Dano’s Health Den” is a comfortable juice bar and café on the premises that will have wireless internet access. Protein shakes, smoothies, wraps and more will be served there.

“We want it to be a place to work out and hang out,” said Daneyko. “A different place to socialize outside the bars.”

State of the art

The cardio and strength training equipment is all high tech. One example of that is the exercise equipment called Kinesis. “Kinesis” is a series of interconnected weighted cables that work the body. It is a combination of strength training, flexibility, and balance, which is good for men and women.

Private training classes will also be available.

The center has the only indoor, rooftop pool in Hoboken. The pool, which is 30×60 feet, will have time slots for family swim time plus an aquatics program.

Eventually Daneyko one day hopes to have a water polo program. In addition, there are many classes including: yoga, pilates, personal training and more. Parents won’t have to worry about their little ones with the child care center, which is complete with its own monitoring system that parents can watch from the machines.

There is also on-site free indoor parking available to members. They want to anticipate and provide for every need with exceptional service.

Feel good services

There are also spa services available to customers including: massage, facials, and aromatherapy. The European steam room is a large room in a private area that is nearby the pool.

One of the spa treatments is to go from the hot steam room to the cold plunge. According to Daneyko, by doing it five or six times it flushes the toxins out and makes your body feel better. He first tried it after a playoff game.

And after all that work sculpting your new shape, you can tan it too with a spray on session or bulb tanning. In addition, there is a waxing area for men and women.

The locker rooms are upscale as well with private shower and changing rooms, a separate area with hairdryers and large lockers.

Clients will have an option to opt for laundry services.

The opening

According to Daneyko, there will be a soft opening in April just as soon as the construction is complete. Then once everything is underway there will be a grand opening celebrity gala.

Daneyko plans to invite members of the Devils, the Giants, and other notable sport figures. The club is currently accepting applications.
