Jersey City third happiest in nation

A recent national survey published in Men’s Health magazine ranked Jersey City the third happiest city in the nation.

According to Sperling’s Best Places (www.bestplaces.net), a survey company based in Portland, Oregon, Jersey City has many of the qualities that make a city’s residents happy.

Using factors such as antidepressant sales, suicide rates, and the number of days per year residents report being depressed, the survey scored more than 100 metropolitan areas across the country and organized them by rank.

According to the survey, Jersey City is much happier than New York City, which came in at number 91. Laredo and El Paso, both in Texas, topped the list.

Factors such as Jersey City’s strong mental illness and crisis prevention programs likely contributed to the city’s high score. Jersey City was one of only four cities surveyed that received an A+ grade.
