Just a few suggestions to lower Hoboken’s budget…

Dear Editor:

The first thing we should do to get Hoboken’s budget in line is to cut all the highest paid officials salaries. The top salary should be maximum of $100,000. If this isn’t good enough for our local chieftains, let them find a job elsewhere. We could also take away everybody’s cell phones, put more cops on the beat, less in cars and keep the cars for an extra year or two. Turn up the temp on the AC in the summer, and turn down the thermostat in winter. Wear a sweater to work. Put lower watt bulbs in the street lamps, and use energy efficient lighting. Have the people at the top of the income scale pay a deductible on their medical insurance. Cut back on contracts with crony law firms and other overstuffed consultants. Quit handing out special deals to big developers. Donate your campaign contributions to paying down the deficit. Lobby the state to pay a higher percentage of school costs by raising taxes on rich people. And if all that doesn’t do it, start selling off your vacation homes and other assets to plug the deficit.
