The door is open Artists display work at 720 Monroe

The folks at 720 Monroe St. in Hoboken will open their studio doors as they do once a month on Sunday, April 17, from noon to 5 p.m. Artists and entrepreneurs who base their operations at 720 Monroe will display their works.

In addition, the gallery will feature works of artists from around the area. The day is free of charge, and there is parking in the rear of the building. Here are some of the artists who will show their work.

Bill Heard

Bill Heard is a painter who follows his passion. He’s a hyperrealist who works from photographs, creating paintings with photographic realism. He has been painting since the 1970s.

“You paint because you have to paint, and you have to paint because you’re inspired,” Heard said. “Every once in a while, you go through cycles of either showing or just doing the work.”

Heard also displayed for Hoboken’s 150th show and participates in the Artist Studio Tour every year from his home studio located at 1127 Bloomfield St.

Bobby Travieso

Bobby Travieso describes himself as a comic artist. This is Travieso’s fourth time displaying at 720 Monroe. He has a studio in his home in Secaucus.

“I’m a cartoonist, but I also do abstract and funky paintings,” said Travieso. “I paint with a range of mediums: Acrylics, watercolors, markers, colored pencils, and mixed media.”

Aldolfo Villanueva Aldolfo Villanueva started out working in textiles as a frame designer, but he always painted. Three years ago, he started working with oils on canvas based on poems that he wrote.

“I’ve been doing illustrations based on poems that I wrote,” said Villanueva. “The series in the show are based on those poems.”

A resident of Queens, Villanueva became aware of Hoboken last year when he attended the Artist Studio Tour. He made contacts there, and was eventually asked to submit slides.
