It’s the Pitts! Steelers fans crowd Hoboken bar

“Pittsburgh has always had a lot of people who move, but love to come back,” says Brenda Kuntz of the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance. “You come to a place like this, and everyone has a connection.”

Her agency, the PRA, wants Pittsburgh natives and people who attended one of the area’s colleges to consider moving back there someday. So, they came to Hoboken’s Texas/Arizona bar last Saturday to throw a little party for local Pittsburgh Steelers fans and to give out literature and prizes.

“I was going to watch the game anyway,” said Duquesne graduate Tim Colbert, who turned out for the event, “and I thought, maybe I’ll bump into someone from the ‘Burgh.” Colbert grew up in Cleveland.

The Texas/Arizona bar also happens to be the local meetup place for the Hoboken branch of the “Black & Gold Brigade,” a national Steelers’ fan organization that runs charity and social events.

Steelers fans in black and gold jerseys began to fill the bar, rooting on their team, which played the Giants that day and ended up winning 33-30, increasing their record to 13-1. Also present at the bar were a group of men dressed as Santa Clauses who were having a pub crawl to raise money for cancer research.
