The event – which supports Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS – begins at 10 p.m. on the rooftop bar at the Iron Monkey, 97 Greene St., Jersey City. There is no cover, but a donation to the cause is required. Wooley’s other major Broadway credits include The Music Man, Five Guys Named Moe, and Abby’s Song. Backed by Jersey City musician Hui Cox and his band, Wooley will perform jazz, pop, and Broadway standards. Seating is limited, and reservations are required. Spoken-word artist Sharae Robinson of Jersey City will host an evening of entertainment variety at The Dancing Goat Café on Friday, July 30. Showtimes are 8:15 and 10:15 p.m. sharp. The Center Gallery at the Old Church Cultural Center in Demarest will host the drawing show, an exhibition that surveys “artists making marks.” The exhibition opens on July 29 and continues through August 27. Hoboken’s Concerts in the Park series continues this Thursday, July 29, with a “Tex-Mex-abilly” performance by Gene D. Plumber. The free concert will run from 7 to 9 p.m. at Sinatra Park, located on Sinatra Drive between Fourth and Fifth streets.
The Demolition String Band will present an evening of country and bluegrass music this Friday, July 30. The shindig will take place at 7 p.m. at Sinatra Park in Hoboken. The band will perform a free concert, featuring the music of Ola Belle Reed.
If you long for the days when the big bands ruled the radio, then dance on over to Hoboken’s Sinatra Park this Saturday, July 31, for an evening of swing dancing. Live music and a free dance lesson will be provided from 7 to 9 p.m.
Summerfest, Jersey City’s free music series, will present Jimmy Sturr and his Orchestra this Sunday, August 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. The Tuesday, August 3, installment will feature Bobby Blue and Company, from 7 to 9 p.m. Both shows are free, and will be held at the CRRNJ Terminal Plaza at Liberty State Park in Jersey City. As part of the Shakespeare in the Park series, several performances of Cymbeline will be held in Hudson County. In Hoboken, performances will take place on three consecutive Mondays: August 2 at Shipyard Park, August 9 at Pier A Park, and August 16 at Sinatra Park. Jersey City performances will be held on Thursday, August 5, at Hamilton Park; and on Thursday, August 19, in Van Vorst Park. The aforementioned shows begin at 7 p.m. Another performance will take place at Ellsworth Park in Union City on Thursday, August 12, at 8 p.m. All performances, presented by the Hudson Shakespeare Company, are free to the public.
