Can I get off now? (merry go down)

Dear Editor:

Not to beat a dead horse…But Christopher Reeve, an accomplished horseman in a safe, non-urban setting, was thrown and permanently disabled. Do we really want to take on that risk for our cowpokes in blue, let alone the odd kick, etc., to a bystander or one of the kids who help out in the “stable” (aka Maxwell House condo conversion). Disability hurts.

If we’re going to lose that freebie space, I for one would rather see our money go to warehousing toxic paints, fluorescent bulbs, etc., almost all of which are not improperly disposed of in the regular trash rather than taken to the hazardous material dump site in Jersey City. That would be a responsible and civic use of city funds. We’ve made tons of money off being perceived as a city of the arts; let’s pay our dues and make sure that the artists’ materials and all other toxic stuff are going where they should. We’re all looking the other way, and dumping every day.

Signed,
Keep our streets & budget safe aka A thoroughbred is not a Camaro; house paints not horses…
