Drink of the week Vive la France!

Massane, 2003 Arauris RoséIn honor of Bastille Day – which was Wednesday, July 14 – grab a bottle of Arauris Rosé, a brand-new wine on the U.S. market. This French concoction is named after Arauris, the ancient Roman name for the region of Herault.

What it is: A dry rosé from Herault, a viticultural region just east of Provence. The area produces superb rosés made from indigenous Mediterranean grape varieties such as Grenache, Cinsault, and Carrignane. A subtle, yet impressively aromatic nose dominated by floral fragrances.

How it tastes: Crisp and refreshing, with a silky, fruity texture vaguely reminiscent of fresh berries.

Cost: $8.99 for a 750 mL bottle at Sparrow Wine & Liquor Co., 126 Washington St. or 1224 Shipyard Lane, Hoboken.

Who’s drinking it: Both men and women have been getting Arauris Rosé, a fresh, lively summer thirst quencher. This bright, rose-red wine may remind its drinkers of unripe strawberries. Perfect for a picnic.
