“THE MUST LIST” Pick up the June 25/July 2 issue of Entertainment Weekly, which features “The Must List: 137 People and Things We Love This Summer.” Jersey City artist Ron English has made the list for his artwork in the film Super Size Me. English is the subject of POPaganda: The Art and Crimes of Ron English, an upcoming documentary by Jersey City filmmaker Pedro Carvajal, who spent 10 years following the artist.Macy’s will partner with the city of Jersey City to host the Macy’s Fourth of July display event at Liberty State Park. This year’s fireworks program, “Beneath a Summer Sky,” will be a partnership between Macy’s, the city’s Department of Health and Human Services/Division of Cultural Affairs, the Jersey City Economic Development Corporation, and the Urban Enterprise Zone. This year, fireworks will be launched from Liberty State Park as well as the South Street Seaport and the East River. The fireworks will begin at 9 p.m., but visitors are encouraged to arrive early and go to Green Park, which can be accessed via Freedom Way.
Rascals on the Hudson will host the Third Series of Word and Drums every Thursday night beginning July 1. Poets are urged to sign in at 10 p.m. to compete for cash prizes, gifts, or exposure. Admission is $5 and there is a two-drink minimum. The spoken-word event will benefit community and not-for-profit organizations, with the first event benefiting the Greater Newark Fresh Air Fund. Summer Sounds by the Bay will be held every Wednesday night from July 7 to August 25 at 16th Street Park in Bayonne. The concert series offers a taste of all types of music genres that will entice a variety of listeners. All residents of Bayonne and neighboring communities are welcome to attend this free event.
