Treatment of Condoleezza Rice was disgraceful

Dear Editor:

On Thursday, April 8, 2004 I watched National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice testify before the Commission regarding the 9/11 attack. What I saw was a vile, hateful, hostile performance put on by political interrogators against our National Security Adviser to President Bush. Senator Richard Benviniste and Senator Bob Kerrey treated Condoleezza Rice like she was a criminal. It was a disgraceful display of unpleasantness toward an officer of our government knowing it was being shown on national TV.

Both politicians raised questions regarding an August 6 memo titled “Bin Laden determined to attack inside the United States.” Apparently they both gave the impression that the above memo indicated when and where the attack would take place. In my humble opinion this memo told us absolutely nothing.

Almost four hours in the witness chair under colossal pressure, Condoleezza Rice was magnificent answering questions from hostile politicians. She was cool, calm and collected which is more than I can say about either politician. She is an educated, strong, steadfast woman who obtained her present job the old fashion way. She earned it. If our politicians hope to establish peace, tranquility and freedom in this world, I suggest they first establish peace among themselves right here in the U.S.A.
