SUSHI LOUNGE – Sushi Lounge brings the Restaurant Week concept to Hoboken, offering three-course menus for $20.04 at lunch at $30.04 at dinner. The sushi house – whose new chef, Tony Leung, came from TAO in Manhattan – is ranked among the top three sushi places in the New York metro area by citysearch.com. The event runs through Friday, July 2. Co-owner Joe Rinaldi says they hope to expand the event to include other area restaurants next year. San Salvador Despues del Eclipse, a Spanish-language play by Carlos Veles, will be performed on Thursday, June 24, as part of Union City’s second annual Summer of Fun. Directed by Elmer Salmeron, San Salvador Despues del Eclipse will begin at 8 p.m. in Ellsworth Park. Admission is free. Ellsworth Park is located at New York Avenue and 24th Street. The work of Jersey City artist James O’Keeffe will be on display in Hoboken until July 17. Recent paintings and drawings by O’Keeffe, of Jersey City’s 111 First St. arts building, will be on display at Maxwell’s, located at 1039 Washington St. For more information, call (201) 653-1703.

The United Gospel Extravaganza, a gospel concert fundraiser, will be held on Saturday, June 26, at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Featured performers include the Gilmore Gospel Family, Bayonne’s Jonathan Bonds, and many gospel artists from Jersey City. Proceeds will benefit the Marey Phillips Recovery Trust Fund. Pastor John McReynolds will be presiding, and refreshments will be served. The event will be held from 5 to 11 p.m., and tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Mt. The Rutherford International Music Festival will be held on June 25, 26, and 27 in Rutherford. If you haven’t traveled to Belgium or Luxembourg, this is your chance to get a taste of the music, arts and crafts, and the unique culture of these European countries. Patrons may sample Luxembourg wine, as well as Belgium’s finest chocolate and beer. Free street music will be offered on Saturday and Sunday. Attention poets – a peer critique group in Hoboken is seeking new members. The poetry collective is looking for serious readers and writers of contemporary poetry who value honest, constructive feedback and are experienced and rigorous editors of their own and others’ work. Hoboken’s 150th anniversary isn’t until next year, but get the party started early with a screening of Waiting for Guffman on Wednesday, June 30. Brought to you by the same people as Best in Show, the comedic Waiting for Guffman revolves around a small Missouri town’s 150th anniversary pageant. The Puerto Rican Cultural Committee of Hoboken will present Sofrito! on Saturday, June 26, at 5 p.m. in Sinatra Park. Sofrito! will feature stars including David Gonzalez, Larry Harlow and the Latin Legends Band, and special guest Yomo Toro. Also performing will be Segunda Quimbamba, and Ray Medina and His Orchestra. The performance, which has toured nationally, is a blend of old-fashioned storytelling and hot Latino music intended to convey Gonzalez’s childhood experiences in the Bronx. Sofrito! will be the main musical performance at the 11th annual Puerto Rican Cultural Festival, which will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Admission to both the festival and Sofrito! is free. Club H Fitness is celebrating its first anniversary with River Fest ’04 – a free event on Saturday, June 26, at Hoboken’s Pier A Park. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and will feature giveaways and live music, including the 102.7 FM promo van and the Shelly Riff Band. Fitness events, such as an agility course, cardio workouts, free wellness consultations, and push-up/sit-up contests will also be featured. Healthy refreshments will be served. The Hudson Shakespeare Company will present Coriolanus, Shakespeare’s tragedy of pre-Republican Rome, on Thursday, June 24, at Van Vorst Park in Jersey City; and on Monday, June 28, at Pier A Park in Hoboken.
