Dear Editor:
I wish to thank all the Vets who have been out there, everywhere selling those poppies. I thank you for being out there so I could have the opportunity to personally thank each and every one of you for your service to our great Nation. Our Nation is great because you made it great. All of you. Some of you are missing toes because of the cold winter during the war. Some of you still have pieces of metal inside your body. Some of you were not recognized as you should have been for the sacrifice you gave and continue to give to this day. You make me proud to be an American. Today one of you thanked me and with a twinkle in your eye, told me to have a great life. I shouted back, “You gave me that life!”
When I look into your seasoned eyes, I see the greatness of our country’s heart and compassion. I see the wisdom and I see the pain. Most of all, I see the love. And I wish to mention to those who see our brave Vets out there selling poppies. Please don’t ever pass on them saying, “I already gave.” Is that what our brave heroes say, “I already fought yesterday, so today I’m gonna pass on preserving liberty”? Please give with a smile and a “thank you for your service” to them all, each and every one of them.Linda Haft
