Dear Editor:
Giving can be the greatest form of love if it’s purely unconditional. It loses its authenticity when it is looked upon as charity. Charity opens the door for religiosity to creep in which avariciously promises a reward in the hereafter. Rewards if not realized lead to resentment, hatred and in the extreme, even violence. A revengeful deity rules by fear by granting or denying one the honor of becoming the chosen one. The conclusion is hypocrisy, corruption and especially pernicious and indecisiveness. Slaves are more legitimate.
Giving, gains its own rewards but must be doled out judiciously for those with larceny in their hearts and minds will greet you with suspicion. They cannot fathom that anything can be free of selfish motive.
When you give, the body thrives just by the action itself; exercise. The mind gains through gratification needing little outside assistance. You glory that while life span has worked against you, you have bettered your fellow man. Money itself is really charity.
High libido may be its fount, for what is sex but giving, in its most natural form. Its purity lies in not expecting too much. Sort of unrequited love. For you still experience the warmth. The bonus comes when you experience a response but you are wise not to exploit the power you feel to have gained to fill you with allusions of grandeur. Do not enslave.
Try genuine giving and if you have any decency in your spirit, it might be the key to a longer and stress free old age. Though all the aches and pains it can still be your golden years. The happy warrior. Angelo Nanfro
