LE DANSE DEUX – Jersey City photographer Dorian Alvarez opens his show Le Danse Deux at Subia’s Café and Gallery in Jersey City this Tuesday, June 1, from 5 to 9 p.m. The exhibition, which will remain on view through June 30, features color photographs of ballet dancers. Kismet Theatre, a new Hudson County troupe, makes its debut this Wednesday, June 2, with the dark comedy Chewing Mother’s Bones. The play, written by local writer Sally Deering, stars Hoboken actresses Margo Singaliese and Jezabel Montero – the founders of the group. Performances will be staged nightly at 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 2, through Saturday, June 5. Matinees will be presented at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, June 5-6. The show takes place at the Jersey City Museum’s Guarini Theatre, 350 Montgomery St. Tickets are $22 for adults and $12 for students and seniors. A Memorial Day celebration featuring Indian dance and drama will be held this Saturday, May 29, at the Jersey City Free Public Library at 1 p.m. The dances will be set to the music of popular Hindi movies, and performed by young people between the ages of 6 and 19. There will also be a short dramatic performance in Gujarati, featuring Mani Patel. Admission free. LavaCity.com presents the artwork of Thomas Michael Patrick, which will be showcased at the Paula at Rigoletto Restaurant through May 31. The next exhibition at the restaurant will be paintings by Franck de La Mercedes, on view from June 1 to June 30. Symposia Bookstore will show paintings and photographs by local artists Grigory Gurevich, Sophie Cooke, Karen Carattini, and Ryokeken until June 9. The Distinguished Restaurants of North America (DiRoNA) has honored Ruth’s Chris Steak House in Weehawken with its 2005 Award of Excellence. The steakhouse is one of only three New Jersey restaurants – and only 61 throughout North America – to be recognized with the award this year. The Five Corners branch of the Jersey City Free Public Library will host free yoga and meditation classes throughout the month of June.
