Many of our most influential leaders emphasize the importance of community involvement in the betterment of our schools. We, the teachers of Joseph F. Brandt Middle School, wish to invite you to contribute to a very worthwhile program in education, something which has already ignited young minds in several areas of the country. Brandt School is going to continue the way we teach reading by utilizing the acclaimed Accelerated Reader Program.
This program is a series of quality books linked to computer discs which question the children about what they’ve read. The program includes a wide variety of books on many different reading levels, so the approach is highly individualized. The students choose the books to read and then prove to the computer (and us!) that they remember and understand what they have read.
Our fledging scholars can accumulate points, based on the number and the difficulty of the books read. This is where our local business community is needed. With prizes as incentives, the students will be motivated to accumulate reading credits. We’re asking all local businesses to donate merchandise, tickets, passes or service – anything the children would like or could present to their parents on Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, birthday or religious holidays. We all react to incentives. Children respond even more so. All prizes will be displayed in our school with a sign identifying your business.
In return, we promise to publicize your generosity and concern in Brandt School publications, in our district wide newsletter and in the local newspapers. The best return on your investment will be knowing that you’ve turned your donation into something even better – kids who can read and think. Please join us! Our staff appreciates and welcomes participation and support in this exciting project.
