Another year, another Super Bowl
Attention America, Super Bowl XXXWhatever is coming. Now in its third decade, the annual American tradition of getting together on a Sunday during the winter to watch two football teams play for a championship title will happen on Feb. 1 on CBS. The pre-game may start at 9 a.m., or even earlier on ESPN. The whole world will be watching as Tom Brady and the New England Patriots take on underdog Carolina Panthers and their star player, uhm, I can’t think of anybody on their team. But who cares, the Panthers will likely lose giving President Bush more reason to show the world he likes Brady. (Why am I hating on Brady so much?)
If you stay home to (pretend) to watch the game or the commercials, don’t forget to order a lot of pizza and buy good beer.
If you go out, check out the Gaslight restaurant at 400 Adams St. in Hoboken. Their Super Bowl party includes a large tray of wings, chicken fingers, sausage peppers, and penne vodka. Also four hours open bar for $75. Not to be outdone, McMahon’s Brownstone Ale House at 1034 Willow Ave. will feature drink specials throughout the night with $2 domestic drafts and $3 Bloody Mary pints. Three A’s at 500 Grand St. will also offer a deluxe brunch and drink specials throughout the day. Like Three A’s, Green Rock at 70 Hudson St. will have drink specials, and Willie McBride’s at 616 Grand St., Baja at 104 14th St., and The Shannon Bar at 106 First St. In fact, virtually every pub, bar or venue with a liquor license in America will be showing the game on Sunday and offering patrons some kind of a happy hour. – E.
