Victory Hall will host an art auction on Dec. 6 that will feature a wide variety of styles as well as local and regional artists. The event will be held at Victory Hall, 186 Grant St. in Jersey City with a silent auction started at 6 p.m. and the live auction at 7:30 p.m. Admission to the event is $10 with complementary wine, food, entertainment and door prizes.
The auction features outstanding works by artist throughout Hudson County and is being held during the height of the holiday shopping season in order to allow people to purchase art as possible gift as well as for collectors to purchase pieces of compelling art by both emerging and established arts. The auction will feature more than 100 works including paintings, photography, even functional art.
The artists expected to display work at the auction include:
- Leon Yost, a documentary photographer, who has lived in downtown Jersey City for 25 years and who coordinated a block-long mural on a main street in Jersey City.
- Vincent Salvati of Union City, who is known for his works on the psychology of sexuality.
- Robert Bauer of Bayonne, known for beautiful landscape acrylic paintings with stunning color.
- Patter Hellstrom of Jersey City who often uses acrylic paint and watercolor to build abstract geometric constructions on canvas.
- Robert Kosinki of Jersey City, whose digital artwork was a hit on the recent Jersey City Arts Tour.
- Carol Strickler of Jersey City, presenting a variety of form and color works in acrylic.
- Peg McCreary of Jersey City, who recently received a merit scholarship from the Arts Student League in Manhattan.
- Megan Klim, who is a painting/mixed media professor at The College of New Jersey in Trenton and who taught painting at Paint Creek for the Arts in Rochester, Mich., and then at the Governor’s School of Arts in Trenton.
Organizers for the event said they tried to be inclusive in presenting arts, looking for artists from Hudson County and beyond. The show includes people from Jersey City to Princeton. All of the work is smaller than 30 by 30 inches, but can include a range of subjects, styles and mediums.
