The non-stop performer A conversation with Stacie Rose, who plays NYC Dec. 5

Stacie Rose is one of the most talented singer/songwriters to come out of the Hoboken scene in recent years. A regular at The Goldhawk on Park Avenue, Rose has attracted large crowds. Her self-titled debut was praised by indie music outlets and a variety of publications. On Dec. 5, Rose performs at the Arlene Grocery in New York City. We recently caught up with Rose.

EM – Where are you from?

SR – Woodcliff Lake, but I went to school in Secaucus and lived in Hoboken for many years.
EM – Who are your influences?

SR – Billy Holiday, Bonnie Raitt, Stevie Nicks, Chrissy Hynde, Marvin Gaye, Sarah Vaughn, The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac, Carol King, The Eagles, Al Green, Tom Petty, David Bowie, Simon and Garfunkle, Led Zepplin, Donna Summer, Patsy Cline, U2, Ella Fitzgerald, Neil Young… I could go on and on and on.
EM – Why did you become a musician?

SR – Because music moves me. It’s creative, inspiring and a beautiful way to reach people and express yourself.
EM – Where have you performed?

SR – Arlene Grocery, the Mercury Lounge, The Lion’s Den, The Village Underground, The Goldhawk. I just got home from an event in Kentucky where I did a bunch of shows down there. Great rowdy crowds. Really fun being down there.
EM – What is your favorite day of the week?

SR – Saturday, because I get to sleep in. That makes me happy.
EM – What are the last three CDs you bought?

SR – Damien Rice, Nina Simone and the new Lucinda Williams.
EM – How would you describe your music?

SR – Singer/songwriter witty/moody songs with pop appeal.
EM – Are you looking for mainstream exposure?

SR – Sure.
EM – What professional plans do you have for the future?

SR – Tour, do more radio shows, make more records. Keep on rockin’ in the free world.
EM – What is the best part about your job?

SR – Experiencing the birth of my songs, they’re growth, metamorphous, and then setting them free into the world. Songs are like butterflies.
