Dear Editor:
As a lifelong resident of the Bergen Square neighborhood in the Journal Square Ward and a very proud one I might say, I think I have a good grasp of what services we receive from the city. The answer is very small compared to other areas of the city.
My street has not been paved since 1973 when Jordan beat Gangemi for mayor. The apple tree house is a rat infested broken down eyesore that has been promised to be restored since Whelan was the mayor. The statue of Peter Styvasant in front of Martin Luther King School is graffiti ridden and poorly maintained for such a famous patron of the area. This is an outrage that one of the founding fathers of our great city sits in filth and neglect.
This writer has called and met with members of the NID and has not received any help in solving some of the problems of the neighborhood.
Thanks.
