They play loud pop rock, but not too loud. With out of control focused distortion with a strong penetrating sound reminiscent of pop rock acts from a couple of years ago, Hero Pattern is striving for an explosion in the airwaves.
Even though they categorize themselves as indie, their sound is more like commercial-ready sonic rockers and their full-length Cut You Out will be available in stores and online. Forming in North Jersey a few years ago, Pattern continues to work the tri-state club circuit, and recently the Northeast. They deliver with an upbeat live show and stylistic songs. Led by the songwriting of Jason Kundrath, the foursome won’t quit because "this is the first step on what promises to be a long and productive musical road," according to Kundrath. Keeping the lead singer company are bassist Rob Fitzgerald, drummer Mike Kundrath, and lead guitarist Pete Marceau. We recently caught up with Kundrath.
EM – Where are you from?
JK – Sparta.
EM – Who are your influences?
JK – I am influenced by a host of artists, both classic and modern. The most
notable would include The Beatles, Elvis Costello, XTC, Aimee Mann, Sunny Day Real Estate, Supedrag… the list goes on.
EM – Why did you become a musician?
JK – Because music keeps me alive.
EM – Where have you performed?
JK – New York, Boston Hoboken, Richmond, Chapel Hill, Detroit, Cleveland, Columbus, Indianapolis, and we’re going back on tour in October.
EM – What is your favorite day of the week?
JK – Whatever day we happen to be performing that week.
EM – What are the last three CDs you bought?
JK – Elvis Costello’s Get Happy!!, Kenna’s New Sacred Cow, and John Mayer’s Heavier Things.
EM – How would you describe your music?
JK – Well, off the top of my head I’d say Hero Pattern makes powerful and passionate indie rock that marries modern, kinetic textures to classic pop sensibilities in order to create a sound that is as timeless as it is vibrantly, undeniably now.
EM – Are you looking for mainstream exposure?
JK – Absolutely, I would love for Hero Pattern to reach as many people as possible.
EM – What professional plans do you have for the future?
JK – Writing, practicing, recording, touring (repeat).
EM – What is the best part about your job?
JK – I’m torn between the fame and the fortune… but seriously, folks… it would have to be the feeling I get when we really connect with the crowd.
