Helping out Hartz holds carnival to benefit K&S

The parking lot near the Lowes Six Complex in Harmon Meadow Mall will become a festive fundraiser for the K&S Social and Athletic Club, thanks to the efforts of Hartz Mountain Industries.

Billed as the “Plaza at Harmon Meadow Carnival,” the event, scheduled to take place on Sept. 18 to 21, will benefit the local charity organization.

The K&S Social & Athletic Club has been one of the key civic organization in Secaucus for over 20 years, providing for people in need in Secaucus, often making certain families are provided for with gifts around the Christmas holiday season.

K&S has often sprung into action to help people on word of mouth. This could be providing food and clothing or other services for someone who has suffered a stroke or someone down on their luck from a loss of a job.

Often, the organization’s activities remain out of the public eye, working behind the scenes with the town’s social services department and other public officials.

About 30 to 40 people belong to the organization, and funds are generally raised through various events such as the annual picnic or annual golf outing. All the money goes to needy people and no one gets paid.

Among the club’s activities are scholarship programs, sponsorship of Secaucus’s recreation athletic leagues, and sponsorship of needy families during the holidays.

“We’re expecting a great turnout and a great time,” said Mayor Dennis Elwell. “What better reason to go out and enjoy one last blast of summer than the K & S Social and Athletic Club?”

Executives at Hartz Mountain are equally excited about the carnival and the opportunity to support a local charity. “Secaucus has always been our corporate home,” said Hartz President and Chief Operating Officer Emanuel Stern. “And events like this carnival are part of what make it such a great place to live and work. Being part of this community is important to us, and we’re proud to support the K & S Social and Athletic Club.”

Hartz Mountain’s other recent youth- and family-related contributions have included participation in Hudson County’s youth summer employment program, sponsorship of the annual Student Art Expo at the Mall at Mill Creek, and a Mall at Mill Creek incentive program where patrons redeemed mall receipts for contributions that went towards purchasing computers for the Secaucus Grammar School.

The Plaza at Harmon Meadow Carnival will take place in the Harmon Meadow parking lot, across from the Loews Six-plex movie theatre, and will be open during the following hours: Thursday, Sept. 18, 6-10 p.m.; Friday, Sept. 19, 6-11 p.m.; Saturday, Sept. 20, 2-11 p.m.; and Sunday, Sept. 21, 2-8 p.m.
