We must have peace throughout the world

Dear Editor:

Former President Bill Clinton was a good President. He had a strong economy, the world was at peace, people were working, he built a foundation of honesty and trust; he was a successful President. Yes, he made mistakes, but he did not put our country in jeopardy of war and still today he is popular and in demand. His style was pleasing and he provided wisdom; people came together for his leadership with the great utmost of respect.

As I’m writing this letter today two more soldiers lost their lives at the Iraq Air Base. I’d like to know, are we still at war? Because our military must defend themselves at all times.

Watching television last night I was very surprised that they changed commanders of the Armed Forces, a four-star general to a three-star general. I know I am jumping from one subject to another, but when you’re a veteran having served in the Armed Forces, something must be wrong, because we can’t be the police country for the whole world, especially when you reach your decision how and when our soldiers will be coming home to their loved ones.

We still need surveillance in Iraq and Afghanistan and most of all the truth from the administration in Washington. Let’s never give up the dream; give life all you got and then give just a little more! And remember, we just celebrated Independence Day!

Sincerely,
Louis V. Saliceti
Mayor’s Commissioner on Senior Affairs
